Nearly every ninth grader, coming into my program, had an uppercut or "hitch" in their swing. I believe this muscle memory is created as they hit against adults, "throwing down" to them or wheel machines putting an arc on the ball, at slow speeds. It is impossible for young players to learn to swing level while hitting balls that are not level. The UPM 45 is the only way I know of for young players to learn while hitting a level pitch at slower speeds.
